Nonbenzodiazepine benzodiazepine receptor agonist hypnotics (ie, Z drugs) have adverse events similar to those of benzodiazepines in older adults (eg, delirium, falls, fractures); increased emergency room visits/ hospitalizations; motor vehicle crashes; minimal improvement in sleep latency and duration.
